Data Updates
The Sea Ice Trends and Climatologies from SMMR and SSM/I-SSMIS, Version 3 data set, available from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been extended through 31 December 2021. This data set contains sea ice concentrations, ice-covered area, ice persistence, and sea ice extent for the Arctic and Antarctic.
Version 3 of the ATLAS/ICESat-2 L3B Weekly Gridded Atmosphere (ATL16) and ATLAS/ICESat-2 L3B Monthly Gridded Atmosphere (ATL17) data sets, will be retired from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) on 18 August 2022. After this date, access to the data will no longer be available, but the data set documentation will remain available for future reference. Version 4 of each data set was released on 21 February 2022.
The MEaSUREs Polar EASE-Grid 2.0 Daily 6 km Land Freeze/Thaw Status from AMSR-E and AMSR2, Version 2 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated to Version 2. In this version, the data set title changed from “MEaSUREs Northern Hemisphere Polar EASE-Grid 2.0 Daily 6 km Land Freeze/Thaw Status from AMSR-E and AMSR2” to reflect the addition of the Southern Hemisphere polar grid.
The SMAP/Sentinel-1 L2 Radiometer/Radar 30-Second Scene 3 km EASE-Grid Soil Moisture data set archived at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) has been updated. The data that were missing due to last years software issue at the SMAP Science Data System (SDS) have now been backfilled. Data from 27th October 2021 to 12 February 2022 are now available to download.

On 18 April 2022, the IMS Daily Northern Hemisphere Snow and Ice Analysis files were renamed. Two updates were made to the file names:
The MEaSUREs Annual Antarctic Ice Velocity Maps, Version 1 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), is now at Version 1.1. In this minor version update, the data set title changed from MEaSUREs Annual Antarctic Ice Velocity Maps 2005-2017 to MEaSUREs Annual Antarctic Ice Velocity Maps. This latest release also includes the addition of 2000/2001, 2017/2018, 2018/2019, and 2019/2020 annual velocity maps.
The SMAP Radiometer Twice-Daily rSIR-Enhanced EASE-Grid 2.0 Brightness Temperatures, Version 2 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated to include new data from 1 May 2021 to 31 December 2021. This data set contains twice-daily, enhanced-resolution brightness temperature data derived from the SMAP radiometer.

The Sea Ice Concentrations from Nimbus-7 SMMR and DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS Passive Microwave Data, Version 1 data set, accessible from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated to include new data through 31 December 2021. This data set is generated from brightness temperature data and is designed to provide a consistent time series of sea ice concentrations spanning the coverage of several passive microwave instruments.
The Bootstrap Sea Ice Concentrations from Nimbus-7 SMMR and DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS, Version 3 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated to include new data through 31 August 2021. This data set consists of daily and monthly sea ice concentrations derived from brightness temperature measurements. This data set is available for the north and south polar regions, with a temporal coverage extending back to 1 November 1978.
The latest versions of four SMAP Level-2 and Level-3 data sets, accessible from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), were released in the last year and data reprocessing is now complete. The full temporal coverage, from 31 March 2015 to present is available. Also, customization services are now available for the polar grid variables for the SMAP Enhanced L3 Radiometer Global and Polar Grid Daily 9 km EASE-Grid Soil Moisture, Version 5 data set.
The LVIS L1A Geotagged Images, Version 1 data set has been updated at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) to now include data from flights held on 16 July 2021 through 6 August 2021. These flights were conducted over the eastern US and French Guiana collecting calibration and validation data for the NASA Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI) mission.
