Please note that all MODIS and VIIRS processing is currently on hold, due to a system wide backend issue that has affected all operations, beginning on Friday, July 21, 2023. An estimated timeline to resume all standard forward processing for MODIS and VIIRS data products is not currently available, and a delay in forward processing is expected.  Once processing has been fully restored, this announcement will be updated.
The Polar Pathfinder Daily 25 km EASE-Grid Sea Ice Motion Vectors, Version 4 data set, available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) has been updated through 31 December 2022. This data set provides daily and weekly sea ice motion vectors including browse images of the weekly data. The source data used to generate the daily and weekly ice motion estimates are derived from AVHRR, AMSRE, SMMR, SSMI, and SSMI/S sensors; IABP buoys; and NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis forecasts.
The EASE-Grid Sea Ice Age, Version 4 data set, available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) has been updated through 31 December 2022. This data set provides weekly estimates of sea ice age for the Arctic derived from remotely sensed sea ice motion and sea ice extent. Data set DOI: https://doi.org/10.5067/UTAV7490FEPB
The AMSR-E/AMSR2 Unified L2B Global Swath Ocean Products, Version 1, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), is currently being updated to include the AMSR-E portion of the dataset from 2002 to 2011, as well as select AMSR2 data from 2017 to 2021. These files are being delivered to us in batches and will be made available as we receive them.
The SMAPVEX19-22 Massachusetts Lidar Derived Digital Surface Model, Version 1 and SMAPVEX19-22 Millbrook Lidar Derived Digital Surface Model, Version 1 data sets, are now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). These data consist of ground surface elevations derived from source lidar measurements collected in August 2022 in the vicinity of Millbrook, NY, and Petersham, MA during the SMAPVEX19-22 campaign.
The MEaSUREs Calibrated Enhanced-Resolution Passive Microwave Daily EASE-Grid 2.0 Brightness Temperature ESDR, Version 1 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has resumed forward processing. Reprocessing of incomplete files is complete for data from 2023. Reprocessing from December 2021 to December 2022 is ongoing. Corrected files will be added as they become available.
The Sea Ice Trends and Climatologies from SMMR and SSM/I-SSMIS, Version 3 data set, available from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been extended through 31 December 2022. This data set contains sea ice concentrations, ice-covered areas, ice persistence, and sea ice extent for the Arctic and Antarctic.
The Daily Global Land Parameters Derived from AMSR-E and AMSR2, Version 3 dataset, available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated. The dataset now covers the time period from 19 June 2002 to 31 December 2021. The 2016 data record has also been reprocessed to correct an issue caused by an incomplete reading of the 2016 brightness temperature record, which affected the DOY 204 to 366 data files.
Version 6 of the ATLAS/ICESat-2 L3A Along Track Inland Surface Water Data, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been released.
NOAA@NSIDC is pleased to announce that you can now access our data using the HTTPS protocol. We are transitioning from FTP to HTTPS for distributing our data to make it easier for users to access data, especially via a web browser.
Multiple ATLAS/ICESat-2 datasets, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), have completed Version 6 reprocessing, and the full temporal coverage is now available
The MODIS Version 6 (Collection 6) Snow Cover and Sea Ice data sets, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) will be retired in August of 2023. After this date, access to the data will no longer be available, but documentation will remain available for future reference.  NSIDC encourages users to switch to the newer MODIS Version 6.1 (Collection 6.1) data.
The Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Collection 2 (Version 2)  data sets are now available through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC).  Collection 2 includes new and improved VIIRS S-NPP snow, sea ice, and ice surface temperature data sets, as well as the first public release of VIIRS data sets from the JPSS-1 (NOAA-20) satellite, which was launched on November 18, 2017.
The High Mountain Asia Landslide Catalog, Version 2 dataset is now available through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). The catalog is an inventory of some 2800 landslides that occurred in the High Mountain Asia (HMA) study area between 5 January 2007 and 31 December 2018, as well as one event from 28 January 1990.
As of 9 June 2023, bi-weekly updating of the Antarctic data in the U.S. National Ice Center Arctic and Antarctic Sea Ice Concentration and Climatologies in Gridded Format, Version 1 data set is suspended indefinitely. The U.S. NIC has suspended production of the Antarctic charts that are the input data for this data set. It is unknown if or when they will resume production of the Antarctic charts.
