The Antarctic Glaciological Data Center (AGDC) at NSIDC is pleased to announce the release of a new data set, Iceberg Capsize Kinematics and Energetics. This data set represents a typical single iceberg capsize experiment. Included in this data set are all the parameters of the plastic iceberg's density and dimensions, the density of the water surrounding the iceberg, and the value of gravitational acceleration.
New validation field campaign data from the Soil Moisture Active Passive Validation Experiment 2012 (SMAPVEX12) are now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), including:
The Antarctic Glaciological Data Center (AGDC) at NSIDC is pleased to announce the release of a new data set, WAIS Divide Ice Core Electrical Conductance Measurements, Antarctica . This data set contains electrical measurements that were used to develop the WDC06A-7 timescale.
NASA IceBridge LVIS L2 Geolocated Surface Elevation Product data for 2013 Arctic are now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). See the LVIS L2 data catalog page for more information.
NASA IceBridge POS/AV L1B Corrected Position and Attitude Data for 2014 Arctic are now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). See the POS/AV L1B data catalog page for more information.
The Antarctic Glaciological Data Center (AGDC) at NSIDC is pleased to announce the release of a new data set, Bubble Number-density Data and Modeled Paleoclimates. This data set includes bubble number-density measured at depths from 120 meters to 560 meters at 20-meter intervals in both horizontal and vertical samples. The data set also includes modeled temperature reconstructions based on the model developed by Spencer et al. (2006).
NASA IceBridge LVIS L1B Geolocated Return Energy Waveforms data for 2013 Arctic is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). See the LVIS L1B data catalog page for more information.
ICESat/GLAS Altimetry Release-34 binary format data for Laser 2E and 2F campaigns are now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) for products GLA05, GLA06, and GLA12-15. See the ICESat/GLAS data collection for more information.
NASA IceBridge DMS L0 Raw Imagery for 2014 Arctic is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). See the Digital Mapping System L0 data catalog page for more information.
The NASA Reverb data search and order tool now has services to subset NASA GLAS HDF5 data both spatially and temporally. For further information, see How to subset GLAS HDF5 data.
The NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) has been notified of erroneous data contained in the sea ice concentration field of the Sea Ice Nimbus-7 SMMR and DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS Passive Microwave Data for the date of 14 September 1984. A geolocation error in the source data resulted in the addition of several hundred thousand square kilometers of erroneous ice for both the Arctic and Antarctic records.
ICESat/GLAS Altimetry Release-34 binary format data for Laser 3H, 3I, 3J, 3K, and 2D campaigns are now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) for products GLA05, GLA06, and GLA12-15. See the ICESat/GLAS data collection for more information.
The NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) is pleased to announce that the Sea Ice Trends and Climatologies from Scanning Multichannel Microwave Radiometer (SMMR) and Special Sensor Microwave Imager/Sounder (SSMIS) have been updated through 31 December 2013 for all products of the data set. Please note that the directory structure for the data has changed since the last update.
The NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) has added new data for 2012 to the MEaSUREs Greenland Ice Velocity: Selected Glacier Site Velocity Maps from InSAR data set. Part of NASA's Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) Program, these data now span January 2009 to December 2012. Visit the MEaSUREs Greenland Ice Velocity: Selected Glacier Site Velocity Maps from InSAR catalog page to view complete documentation and obtain the data.
The NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) has released Version 3 of the MEaSUREs Global Record of Daily Landscape Freeze/Thaw Status data set. This release, part of NASA's Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) Program, extends the SMMR-SSM/I-SSMIS freeze/thaw record through 2012, corrects land/ocean mask and freeze/thaw misclassification errors over ocean dominated grid cells, and applies a revised methodology to produce data annual quality maps.
The ability to view data interactively adds convenience to dynamic data analysis. While static graphs and images are informative, interactive tools allow users to view and analyze data on-the-fly. Readers of our Arctic Sea Ice News and Analysis blog enjoy daily updates on sea ice extent, but some wanted to see data from specific days or years that weren’t provided in the static graphs. Behold Charctic.
The Antarctic Glaciological Data Center (AGDC) at NSIDC is pleased to announce the release of Version 1.1 of the MODIS Mosaic of Antarctica 2003-2004 Image Map.
NOAA@NSIDC is pleased to announce the release of the ClimoBase: Rouse Canadian Surface Observations of Weather, Climate, and Hydrological Variables, 1984-1998 data set. ClimoBase is a collection of surface-climate measurements taken in Northern Canada by Dr. Wayne Rouse between 1984 and 1998 in three locations: Churchill, Manitoba; Marantz Lake, Manitoba; and Inuvik, Northwest Territories. These data are comprised of 177 different variables including solar time, wind speed, wind direction, dry-bulb, wet-bulb, and vapor pressure at 24 sites.
