Overview
The MEaSUREs Global Record of Daily Landscape Freeze/Thaw Status, Version 01 data set is derived from the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) satellite series using the Special Sensor Microwave Imager (SSM/I). The parameters in this data set include AM freeze thaw, PM freeze thaw, combined freeze thaw, transitional freeze thaw, and inverse transitional freeze thaw states of water. The data set presents global coverage from morning, afternoon, and daily combined overpasses from 01 January 1988 to 31 December 2007. The data set is available through FTP and contains files in the HDF5, PNG, and GIF formats. These data were generated through a grant from the NASA Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) program.

Many NSIDC DAAC data sets can be accessed using the NSIDC DAAC's Data Access Tool. This tool provides the ability to search and filter data with spatial and temporal constraints using a map-based interface.Users have the option to
The NSIDC Data Map Services Application Programming Interface (API) provides HTTP URLs for requesting geo-registered map images from NSIDC's geospatial database. A WMS request defines the geographic layer(s) and area of interest to be processed.
We recommend using the Geospatial Data Abstraction Library (GDAL) to convert GeoTIFF files into a different format.
To convert HDF5 files into binary format you will need to use the h5dump utility, which is part of the HDF5 distribution available from the HDF Group. How you install HDF5 depends on your operating system.
All data from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) is directly accessible through our HTTPS file system using Wget or curl. This article provides basic command line instructions for accessing data using this method.
NASA Worldview is a map interface that allows users to interactively browse imagery, create visualizations, and download the underlying data.
NASA's Global Imagery Browse Services (GIBS) provides up to date, full resolution imagery for selected NSIDC DAAC data sets.
