ICESat/GLAS Long Term Archive

The ICESat/GLAS Long Term Archive (LTA) is a selection of data preservation documentation for ICESat/GLAS data. This data preservation maintains the usability of data for future research and new scientists, and includes keeping the data in a safe and secure system as well as maintaining the availability of related information necessary to use the data in a secure archive far into the future.

Background

NASA's Geoscience Laser Altimeter System (GLAS) instrument aboard the NASA Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite (ICESat) launched on 12 January 2003. ICESat's science mission spanned 18 laser operations from 20 February 2003 to 11 October 2009. The NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) is the designated data archive for GLAS data.
