NSIDC is pleased to announce that the "Snow Melt Onset Over Arctic Sea Ice from SMMR and SSM/I-SSMIS Brightness Temperatures" data set has been updated to Version 3. Version 3 updates the record through the 2012 melt season utilizing brightness temperatures from the SSMIS instrument aboard the DMSP F17 satellite.

Other processing changes are included in the Version 3 release which improve upon the Version 2 data. For a full description of these changes see the Version History.

The NSIDC DAAC is pleased to announce that the Sea Ice Concentrations from Nimbus-7 SMMR and DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS Passive Microwave Data Set has been updated to include data through 30 September 2013.

The NSIDC DAAC is pleased to announce that the DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS Pathfinder Daily EASE-Grid Brightness Temperatures data set has been updated to include data through 31 December 2013.

NSIDC is pleased to announce that the DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS Daily Polar Gridded Brightness Temperatures data set has been updated to include data through 31 December 2013.

Beginning 10 Feb. 2014, Version 2 AMSR-E/Aqua L2A Global Swath Spatially-Resampled Brightness Temperatures will no longer be available from NSIDC.

Version 3 of the AMSR-E/Aqua L2A Global Swath Spatially-Resampled Brightness Temperatures data set, which uses the most up-to-date algorithm, will remain available.

NASA IceBridge ATM L2 Icessn Elevation, Slope, and Roughness data for 2013 Arctic are now available from NSIDC. For documentation, and to access the data, see the IceBridge ATM L2 data catalog page.

Notice to Users of AMSR-E, ICESat/GLAS, IceBridge, MODIS and NISE Data.

The FTP location for accessing AMSR-E, ICESat/GLAS, IceBridge, MODIS, and NISE data changed in October from n4ftl01u.ecs.nasa.gov to n5eil01u.ecs.nsidc.org. Redirects that were previously put in place for users connecting to n4ftl01u.ecs.nasa.gov were removed. Users connecting to our FTP through a script or through an FTP download program should change the host name to n5eil01u.ecs.nasa.gov in order to continue retrieving data.

NASA IceBridge WISE L2 Ice Thickness and Surface Elevation data for 2013 Alaska are now available from NSIDC. This data set contains depth sounder measurements of elevation, surface, bottom, and thickness for Alaska taken from the Warm Ice Sounding Explorer (WISE). NSIDC is pleased to announce that the Polar Pathfinder Daily 25 km EASE-Grid Sea Ice Motion Vectors data set has been updated to Version 2. Version 2 includes updated data through 31 December 2012 for both hemispheres.

NASA IceBridge DMS L1B Geolocated and Orthorectified Images for 2013 Arctic are now available from NSIDC. For documentation, and to access the data, see the IceBridge DMS L1B data set landing page.

Reprocessing is complete and updated data are now available through 31 December 2012 for all Sea Ice Trends and Sea Ice Trends and Climatologies from SMMR and SSM/I-SSMIS data sets. With this update, the following changes have been implemented:

Investigators Eric Rignot, Jeremie Mouginot, and Bernd Scheuchl have added a 450 m resolution map to their "MEaSUREs InSAR-Based Antarctica Ice Velocity Map" data set. NSIDC offers these data as part of NASA's Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) program.
