The SMAP/CYGNSS EASE-Grid Soil Moisture, Version 1, is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set is derived by downscaling Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) enhanced Level-3 9 km brightness temperatures (TB) using Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System (CYGNSS) reflectivity data and employing a slightly modified version of the baseline SMAP active-passive TB algorithm, the Single Channel Algorithm – Vertical polarization (SCA-V).
The NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) will add 22 data sets from the Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) collection to NASA Earthdata Cloud on 3 December 2024. Earthdata Cloud is NASA’s archive of Earth observations, hosted in Amazon Web Services (AWS). While these data sets will continue to be available via their current URLs and workflows, these legacy access methods will be retired soon.
The Sea Ice Concentrations from Nimbus-7 SMMR and DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS Passive Microwave Data, Version 2 data set, available from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated through  30 June 2024. This data set is generated from brightness temperature data and is designed to provide a consistent time series of sea ice concentrations spanning the coverage of several passive microwave instruments.
AMSR-E/AMSR2 Unified L3 Global Daily Ascending/Descending .25x.25 deg Ocean Grids, Version 1, AMSR-E/AMSR2 Unified L3 Global Weekly Ascending/Descending .25x.25 deg Ocean Grids, Version 1, and AMSR-E/AMSR2 Unified L3 Global Monthly Ascending/Descending .25x.25 deg Ocean Grids, Version 1, are now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC).
The High Mountain Asia Daily 5km Landslide Hazard Indicator, Version 1 data set, available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated.  This update adds landslide hazard indicators (LHIs) for 1990 through 2014, retrodicted using the same 30-member ensemble climate model used to project LHIs through 2100.
Data transformation services through NASA Earthdata Harmony are now available for 8 ATLAS/ICESat-2 data sets archived at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). Earthdata Harmony allows users to subset NASA ESDIS data available in Earthdata Cloud to their specific spatial and temporal regions of interest.
All SNPP VIIRS forward processing has been temporarily suspended due to a GPS anomaly issue that began at 231Z November 2, 2024. Given this degradation, all production of SNPP VIIRS land data products are suspended until further notice. Users are advised not to use any SNPP VIIRS data products that have been produced and are being distributed since 215Z on November 2, 2024. A possible mitigation effort will start today, Monday November 4, 2024; quality assurance will be performed before forward processing is resumed. NSIDC will post additional details as they are made available.
NOAA@NSIDC is pleased to announce that the Climate Data Record of Passive Microwave Sea Ice Concentration, Version 4 data set, accessible through the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC), has been updated to include the time period of 01 April 2024 through 30 June 2024. This data set provides a consistent daily and monthly time series of sea ice concentrations beginning 25 October 1978 for both the north and south polar regions on a 25 km x 25 km grid.
New versions of the SMAP Level-1, Level-2, and Level-3 Data Sets from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) have finished reprocessing data and are now available from 2015 to the present. The older version of each data set will be retired on 16 December 2024. After that date, data access will only be available for the newest version.
The SnowEx Mores Creek Summit (MCS) Airborne LiDAR Survey, Version 1 and SnowEx Mores Creek Summit (MCS) Airborne LiDAR Survey Raw, Version 1 data sets are now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). These data sets contain digital terrain models, digital surface models, snow depth models, and canopy height models as well as the corresponding raw point cloud data.
