The VIIRS/NPP CGF Snow Cover Daily L3 Global 375m SIN Grid, Version 1 data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set utilizes a cloud-gap-filled algorithm to replace cloud-covered pixels with cloud-free pixels for the purpose of estimating the snow cover that may exist under current cloud cover. The data are provided daily and mapped to a 375 m sinusoidal grid.
The NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) will be presenting a hands-on tutorial during the 2019 AGU Fall Meeting, hosted by the ARCUS Arctic Community Meeting Space. This tutorial will demonstrate our data discovery, access, subsetting services, and how to utilize basic open source resources to harmonize and analyze data across different remote sensing products.
The ASO L4 Lidar Snow Depth 3m UTM Grid, Version 1; ASO L4 Lidar Snow Depth 50m UTM Grid, Version 1; and ASO L4 Lidar Snow Water Equivalent 50m UTM Grid, Version 1 data sets, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), have been updated to include new data for 2019.
The majority of SMAP data sets, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), are now available as customizable data subscriptions. Data subscriptions automatically deliver new data as they become available; deliveries can be made on an hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly basis, depending on your preference.
The Application for Extracting and Exploring Analysis Ready Samples (AppEEARS) now includes the newest versions of select Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) data sets from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). AppEEARS offers a simple and efficient way to subset SMAP data sets using spatial, temporal, and layer parameters for both point and area samples.
NOAA@NSIDC is pleased to announce the release of version 2 of On-Ice Arctic Sea Ice Thickness Measurements by Auger, Core, and Electromagnetic Induction, from the Late 1800s Onward. In addition to sea ice thickness, the data set provides sea ice freeboard and snow depth on sea ice from on-ice measurements taken primarily using auger, coring devices, and electromagnetic (EM) sounding. When available, ice type is also included.
New data set release: IceBridge ATM L1B Near-Infrared Waveforms The IceBridge ATM L1B Near-Infrared Waveforms, Version 1 data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains geolocated waveforms measured by the Airborne Topographic Mapper (ATM) near-infrared (NIR) lidar acquired during the 2018 Antarctic campaign from 10 October 2018 through 16 November 2018.
NOAA@NSIDC has long partnered with the World Glacier Monitoring Service (WGMS) in Switzerland to improve the quality and completeness of glacier data. NSIDC’s User Services office gets questions from the public about glaciers that our data hold the answers to seemingly simple questions like “What are the largest glaciers on the planet?” Ann Windnagel set out to find answers during a stay with WGMS and found that it's not such a simple matter.
The following data sets, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), have been updated to version 1.1 to reflect updated filenames in the GDAL virtual format (.vrt) files: MEaSUREs Greenland Monthly Ice Sheet Velocity Mosaics from SAR and Landsat, Version 1 MEaSUREs Greenland Quarterly Ice Sheet Velocity Mosaics from SAR and Landsat, Version 1
The MEaSUREs Phase-Based Antarctica Ice Velocity Map, Version 1 data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set, produced under the Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) Program, combines interferometric phases from multiple satellite interferometric synthetic-aperture radar systems to derive the first comprehensive phase-based map of Antarctic ice velocity.
NOAA@NSIDC has updated their September and March Sea Ice Index sea ice animations in Google Earth with 2019 near-real-time data and replaced the 2018 near-real-time images with final data. To access the Google Earth files, see the NSIDC Data on Google Earth page.
The AMSR-E/Aqua L2A Global Swath Spatially-Resampled Brightness Temperatures, Version 4 data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains daily, 50-minute, half-orbit swath brightness temperatures for six channels ranging from 6.9 GHz through 89 GHz. Data are resampled to spatial resolutions ranging from 5.4 km to 56 km. Each file is packaged with geolocation and quality information, as well as ancillary data.
Multiple Level-1B, Level-2A, and Level-3A data sets from the Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) mission have been updated to Version 2 at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC).
The NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) is one of twelve NASA Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) data centers.
