Data set updates: SMAP Level-4 Data Version 7

The SMAP Level-4 Data Sets, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), have been updated to version 7. For all Level-4 data products, data from the entire time series (31 March 2015 to present) are now available. Version 6 data products will be retired on 30 November 2022.

SMAP L4 Global 3-hourly 9 km EASE-Grid Surface and Root Zone Soil Moisture Analysis Update, Version 7

SMAP L4 Global 3-hourly 9 km EASE-Grid Surface and Root Zone Soil Moisture Geophysical Data, Version 7

SMAP L4 Global 9 km EASE-Grid Surface and Root Zone Soil Moisture Land Model Constants, Version 7

SMAP L4 Global Daily 9 km EASE-Grid Carbon Net Ecosystem Exchange, Version 7

 The primary changes include:
- SPL4SMAU, SPL4SMGP, & SPL4SMLM: The Catchment model now includes a hydrology module for peatlands and uses an updated global map of peatland distribution. Parameters used in the L-band radiative transfer model have been revised.
- SPL4CMDL: The source of the baseline fPAR input to the carbon model has been changed from MODIS to VIIRS fPAR. The carbon model has been recalibrated for better consistency with SPL4SMGP soil moisture and soil temperature inputs.
