MEaSUREs Calibrated Enhanced-Resolution Passive Microwave Daily EASE-Grid 2.0 Brightness Temperature (CETB) ESDR (NSIDC-0630) 

We have completed reprocessing the existing passive microwave brightness temperature record, to produce a new, multi-sensor MEaSUREs Calibrated Enhanced-Resolution Passive Microwave Daily EASE-Grid 2.0 Brightness Temperature (CETB) ESDR that incorporates SMMR, SSM/I-SSMIS, and AMSR-E, with recently released improvements in sensor calibrations, as well as improvements in cross-sensor calibration and quality checking, modern file formats, better quality control, improved projection grids, and local time-of-day processing. As of summer 2021, this data set is updated daily.

The CETB ESDR is gridded to the EASE-Grid 2.0 format. It includes conventional resolution products as well as enhanced-resolution imagery. We are receiving feedback that the new ESDR is improving the research capability and quality of the large community of land surface and polar snow/ice researchers in long-term climate studies with better data usability and reliability.

We produced the CETB ESDR with community feedback on a prototype ESDR that we released in 2016, now extended with daily, near real-time updates. The full data set is now available from the NSIDC DAAC. We welcome feedback and comments on the new ESDR. For questions, please contact Mary Jo Brodzik.


SMAP CETB

SMAP Radiometer Twice-Daily rSIR-Enhanced EASE-Grid 2.0 Brightness Temperatures (NSIDC-0738)

With funding from the NASA Terrestrial Hydrology Program, we have also used the rSIR technique to produce completely compatible grids of enhanced-resolution Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) radiometer brightness temperatures. As of August 2021, SMAP Radiometer Twice-Daily rSIR-Enhanced EASE-Grid 2.0 Brightness Temperatures data are now available from the NSIDC DAAC for the period 31 Mar 2015 to 30 Apr 2021. This data set is updated daily with the latest near real-time L1B inputs.
