The Antarctic Glaciological Data Center (AGDC) at NSIDC is pleased to announce the release of a new data set, Borehole Temperatures at Pine Island Glacier, Antarctica. This data set is a time series of borehole temperatures at different depths from three thermistor strings deployed in three boreholes drilled through the Pine Island Glacier ice shelf, Antarctica.
We are pleased to announce that the beta version of Level-1 radiometer data from NASA’s Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) mission is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). In addition, the beta version of Level-1 radar data is now available at the NASA Alaska Satellite Facility (ASF DAAC).
NOAA@NSIDC is pleased to announce some enhancements to the Glacier Photograph Collection Search & Order interface. Enhancements include making it easier and more apparent how to add photos to an order and how to place an order. In addition, the metadata fields were fine-tuned and improved to increase the discoverability of the photos.
The Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) Program, at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), is pleased to announce that six of its data sets can now be readily geolocated by popular geospatial software packages such as GDAL and Panoply. These updated data sets include two new variables that specify x and y coordinates for the projection in meters from the origin. To obtain these data, visit the following data set landing pages:
The Antarctic Glaciological Data Center (AGDC) at NSIDC is pleased to announce the release of a new data set, Continuous, Ultra-high Resolution WAIS-Divide Ice Core Methane Record 9.8-67.2 ka BP. This data set contains methane concentrations for the Last Glacial Period and the deglacial transition from the WAID Divide ice core. The concentrations were determined through a continuous measurement technique (Stowasser, et al. 2012).
The Antarctic Glaciological Data Center (AGDC) at NSIDC is pleased to announce the release of a new data set, Inverted Basal Shear Stress of Antarctic and Greenland Ice Streams and Glaciers. This data set includes basal shear distributions inferred from surface observations under ten selected locations in Greenland and Antarctica.
NASA IceBridge ATM L1B Elevation and Return Strength data for 2014 Antarctica are now available from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains spot elevation measurements of Arctic and Antarctic sea ice, and Greenland, Antarctic Peninsula, and West Antarctic region ice surface acquired using the NASA Airborne Topographic Mapper (ATM) instrumentation.
Data set DOI: https://doi.org/10.5067/19SIM5TXKPGT
Reprocessed NASA IceBridge Sea Ice Freeboard, Snow Depth, and Thickness Arctic data are now available from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). The IceBridge L4 Sea Ice Freeboard, Snow Depth, and Thickness (IDCSI4) product is informally regarded as Version 2 of the IceBridge Sea Ice Freeboard, Snow Depth, and Thickness (IDCSI2) product. Adding L4 (Level-4) to the data set name more accurately represents the data processing level. Currently, the reprocessed L4 data include Arctic campaigns from 2009 to 2012.
Due to a power failure on the Satélite de Aplicaciones Científicas (SAC)-D spacecraft on 08 June 2015, data from NASA’s Aquarius instrument are no longer being produced. For more information on this event, please refer to the official NASA announcement.
NASA IceBridge ATM L2 Icessn Elevation, Slope, and Roughness data for 2014 Antarctica are now available from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains resampled and smoothed elevation measurements of Arctic and Antarctic sea ice, and Greenland, Antarctic Peninsula, and West Antarctic region land ice surface acquired using the NASA Airborne Topographic Mapper (ATM) instrumentation.
The Science Ice Exercise (SCICEX) Program, that uses U. S. Navy submarines to collect data about the Arctic Ocean, has been highlighted in two articles in the Spring 2015 issue of Witness the Arctic published by the Arctic Research Consortium of the United States (ARCUS).
The Antarctic Glaciological Data Center (AGDC) at NSIDC is pleased to announce the release of a new data set, WAIS Divide Microparticle Concentration and Size Distribution, 0-2400 ka. These data describe raw dust microparticle data for the WAIS Divide deep core, WDC06A, from the surface to 577 m.
NASA IceBridge Narrow Swath ATM L1B Elevation and Return Strength data for 2014 Antarctica are now available from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains spot elevation measurements of Greenland, Arctic, and Antarctic sea ice acquired using the NASA Airborne Topographic Mapper (ATM) 4CT3 narrow scan instrumentation.
