Throughout the life of the NASA ICESat mission and beyond, ICESat/GLAS data have been distributed in binary format by the National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). These data have been extremely popular but not always conducive for all users to work with due to their binary format.
The Aquarius polar-gridded Version 5 products are now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). These data sets include weekly polar-gridded Level-3 products of Aquarius L-band Normalized Radar Cross Section retrievals, Sea Surface Salinity retrievals, and radiometer Brightness Temperature observations. To access the data and documentation, please see:
The NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) has released Alaska Tidewater Glacier Terminus Positions data. This data set contains Alaska tidewater glacier terminus positions digitized from USGS topographic maps and Landsat images. To obtain these data, visit Alaska Tidewater Glacier Terminus Position, Version 1 Data Set DOI: https://doi.org/10.5067/3OOVUDFK3R0W

NOAA@NSIDC is pleased to announce that we have updated the Google Earth file for the annual minimum Arctic sea ice extent for 2015. The September 2015 minimum KMZ file has been updated to show the 2015 September Arctic sea ice minimum. To view these, and other, Google Earth files, visit the NSIDC Data on Google Earth web page.
The SMAP Science Data System (SDS) has completed reprocessing of NASA SMAP Level-1, -2, and -3 radiometer data products to Version 2. The following data sets are now available for the full radiometer time series, 31 March 2015 to present, at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC): SMAP L1A Radiometer Time-Ordered Parsed Telemetry (SPL1AP) Data Set DOI: https://doi.org/10.5067/JGV8EY3FGAH1
The Antarctic Glaciological Data Center (AGDC) at NSIDC is pleased to announce the release of a new data set, Ice Sheet Model Output, West Antarctic Ice Sheet Deglaciation. This data set consists of Ice-sheet model output of Antarctic Ice Sheet simulations spanning 30,000 years BP to 5000+ years in the future.
The Antarctic Glaciological Data Center (AGDC) at NSIDC is pleased to announce the release of a new data set, Mount Moulton Isotopes and Other Ice Core Data. These data consist of water isotope ratios from the Mt. Moulton ice-trench record, as well as data from the Taylor Dome, EPICA Dome C, Talos Dome, Vostok, and EPICA Dronning Maud Land ice cores.
The Nimbus Data Rescue Project has released six new data sets, now available for download at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). These data sets consist of infrared imagery, brightness temperatures, and atmospheric water vapor obtained in 1970-71 by the Temperature-Humidity Infrared Radiometer (THIR) on board the Nimbus 4 satellite. Both swath and gridded data are available.
The NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) is pleased to announce a new data set, the MEaSUREs MODIS Mosaic of Greenland 2005 (MOG2005) Image Map. This data set consists of two digital image maps for Greenland that show surface morphology and snow grain size. The image maps are constructed from MODIS imagery acquired during 2005 and provide nearly cloud-free views of all land areas and islands larger than a few hundred meters, including the ice caps on Baffin Island, Devon Island, Axel Heiberg Island, and Ellesmere Island.
The Greenland Ice Mapping Project (GIMP) Digital Elevation Model is now available from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set, funded by NASA's Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) Program, consists of an enhanced resolution digital elevation model (DEM) for the Greenland Ice Sheet.
The 4 km Daily Sea Ice Concentration Product, MASAM2, has had all data gaps filled. It is a now a continuous, daily time series from 02 July 2012 to the present. MASAM2 is updated daily with a 2-day lag time. For more information or to access this data set, see the MASAM2: Daily 4 km Arctic Sea Ice Concentration product page. Data Set DOI: https://doi.org/10.7265/N5ZS2TFT
The AMSR-E Science Investigator-led Processing System (SIPS) has updated the AMSR-E L2B rain data set, AMSR-E/Aqua L2B Global Swath Surface Precipitation GSFC Profiling Algorithm, to Version 3.
The NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) is pleased to announce that Version 6 (Collection 6) reprocessing is complete for our MODIS sea ice data sets. Forward–processing will continue for both Version 5 and Version 6 for approximately one year, after which Version 5 forward-processing will be discontinued. To obtain MODIS Version 6 sea ice data, visit the MODIS collection. Questions? Contact NSIDC's User Services Office.
We are pleased to announce that all data from the NASA Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) mission are now available at the National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) and the NASA Alaska Satellite Facility Distributed Active Archive Center (ASF DAAC). The two NASA DAACs jointly manage SMAP science data on behalf of the NASA ESDIS Project. SMAP combines coincident L-band radar and radiometer measurements to produce global, high-resolution soil moisture and freeze/thaw estimates.
NOAA@NSIDC is pleased to announce that the online search interface for the Dehn Arctic Sea Ice Charts database has been updated. Improvements include the ability to define your search by region and time period at the same time, the search results now list how many images were returned, and a "Select/Deselect All" button has been added to the ordering page for ease in selecting images.
