Data set updates: ATLAS/ICESat-2 L2A Global Geolocated Photon Data (ATL03) and Normalized Relative Backscatter Profiles (ATL04) updating to Version 6

The ATLAS/ICESat-2 L2A Global Geolocated Photon Data (ATL03) and ATLAS/ICESat-2 L2A Normalized Relative Backscatter Profiles (ATL04) data sets, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), are being updated to Version 6. ATL03 contains height above the ellipsoid, time, and geodetic latitude and longitude for individual photons.  ATL04 contains normalized relative backscatter profiles of the atmosphere.  Temporal coverage spans the time range from 14 October 2018 through 01 March 2023.  Processing to version 6 for these two data sets is ongoing and gaps in the times series are being filled in daily.

Important information for data users:  ATL03 Version 6 includes updates resulting in mean photon height offsets between Version 5 and Version 6, with ATL03 Version 6 approximately 4 cm lower than Version 5. Comparing heights between versions is not advised.

Please note that Version 5 of these data sets will be retired 6 months after the full temporal coverage for Version 6 becomes available.
