Data set update: GLIMS Glacier Database, Version 1

The GLIMS Glacier Database, Version 1 dataset, available via the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated. This update includes new data on glacier outlines and improvements to existing ones. For more information about the changes included in this update, please refer to the GLIMS Glacier Database V1 Change Log, which can be found under the General Resources section on the dataset's landing page: https://nsidc.org/data/nsidc-0272.

This dataset is a comprehensive glacier inventory that provides information about the extent and rate of change of all the world's mountain glaciers and ice caps. It uses data from the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) instrument aboard the Terra satellite, the LANDSAT series of satellites, and historical observations. The dataset is produced in coordination with the Global Land Ice Measurements from Space (GLIMS) initiative and covers the period from 1 January 1850 to the present.
