Version Summary
Changes for this version include:

  1. Improved/fixed a number of reported QA parameters to better reflect phenomena of concern.

  2. Corrected a math error in the ATBD for ATL02 (Equation 5-13) and updated the corresponding receiver return sensitivity code. This calculation interpolates transmit/receive misalignment between AMCS offset updates.

  3. Addressed several documentation issues within the ATL02 file metadata related to units and descriptions.

  4. Removed the temperature parameter from /ancillary_data/calibrations/nominal_rx_sensitivity. As the nominal receiver sensitivity calibration is no longer indexed by temperature, this parameter has become irrelevant.

  5. Added a patch to detect and correct anomalous transmit fine count swap issues

  6. Corrected a code error such that the temperature used for CAL-47 now references the correct thermistor.

  7. Corrected for a coarse count issue that occurs simultaneously with the fine count swap issue described in (5) (above). The new method subtracts 1 from the coarse count if the start marker is equal to 1.

Overview

This data set (ATL02) contains science unit-converted, time-ordered telemetry data, calibrated for instrument effects, downlinked from the Advanced Topographic Laser Altimeter System (ATLAS) instrument on board the Ice, Cloud and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) observatory. The data are used by the ATLAS/ICESat-2 Science Investigator-led Processing System (SIPS) for system–level, quality control analysis and as source data for ATLAS/ICESat-2 Level-2 products and the Precision Orbit Determination (POD) and Precision Pointing Determination (PPD) computations.
