• NSIDC DAAC is currently upgrading our data ingest process for NASA Earthdata Cloud. During this transition, users may notice temporary interruptions in data availability or notice small data gaps. All gaps will be resolved as quickly as possible. During this upgrade jpeg browse imagery will also not be available for preview in Earthdata search. Please reach out to NSIDC User Services with any questions or concerns.

Overview

This data set, part of the NASA Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) Program, provides high-resolution, digital mosaics of ice motion in the Amundsen Sea Embayment (ASE) and West Antarctica, including the Pine Island, Thwaites, Haynes, Pope, Smith, and Kohler glaciers. The mosaics were assembled from interferometric synthetic-aperture radar (InSAR) data acquired in 1996, 2000, 2002, and 2006-2012 by various satellites. See Antarctic Ice Sheet Velocity and Mapping Data for related data.

Image
Amundsen Sea Embayment ice velocity

This color-coded map shows ice velocity, in kilometers per year, for the Amundsen Sea Embayment in 2007. The image is derived using data from ALOS PALSAR. Highest velocities appear in magenta and red, intermediate velocities appear in blue and green, and lowest velocities appear in yellow and peach. Areas where ice velocity is not measured appear in gray. Velocies are overlaid onto a MODIS mosaic. Credit: NASA MEaSUREs AIV Data: CSA, ESA, DLR, ASF
