With the generous support of the Climate Science and Communication Fund from Surge Climate Talent, NSIDC’s Ice Sheets and Sea Ice News and Analysis (ISSINA) is able to start up monthly science assessments for the Sea Ice Today site, which has continued to offer maps and charts of polar sea ice data. However, Ice Sheets Today will remain paused.
Science commentary will return for NSIDC’s Sea Ice Today analysis site at the beginning of September 2026. Our format will be similar to previous posts; however, mid-month posts will not resume during the peak Arctic melt season. Our monthly posts will still feature weather and climate conditions of the preceding month, current status of the ice in both hemispheres, and the outlook. A brief discussion of ice sheet melting on Greenland or Antarctica will resume as a short section within the Sea Ice Today reports.
