What projections are used for gridded Operation IceBridge data sets?
This article describes the Arctic and Antarctic projections used for gridded Operation IceBridge data sets.
Arctic
The standard projection parameters for Northern Hemisphere Operation IceBridge data are:
- Polar Stereographic
- Standard Parallel 70° N
- Longitude of the origin (central meridian): 45° W
- WGS 84 ellipsoid
This projection is defined as EPSG:3413. Examples of other NSIDC DAAC data sets using this projection include:
- Digital SAR Mosaic and Elevation Map of the Greenland Ice Sheet
- GLAS/ICESat 1 km Laser Altimetry Digital Elevation Model of Greenland
Antarctic
The standard projection parameters for Southern Hemisphere IceBridge data are:
- Polar Stereographic
- Standard Parallel 71° S
- Longitude of the origin (central meridian): 0°
- WGS 84 ellipsoid
This projection is defined as EPSG:3031. Examples of other NSIDC DAAC data sets using this projection include:
- RAMP AMM-1 SAR Image Mosaic of Antarctica
- Radarsat Antarctic Mapping Project Digital Elevation Model Version 2
- Antarctic 1 km Digital Elevation Model (DEM) from Combined ERS-1 Radar and ICESat Laser Satellite Altimetry
- MODIS Mosaic of Antarctica (MOA) Image Map
- AVHRR and LIMA mosaics served by USGS (for example, see https://lima.usgs.gov/)
