NOAA@NSIDC is pleased to announce that you can now access our data using the HTTPS protocol. We are transitioning from FTP to HTTPS for distributing our data to make it easier for users to access data, especially via a web browser.
The directory structure of the data sets has not changed, but the beginning of the URL has changed where ftp://sidads.colorado.edu/pub/DATASETS is replaced by https://noaadata.apps.nsidc.org. For example, to access daily GeoTIFFs for the Arctic from the Sea Ice Index data set:
ftp://sidads.colorado.edu/pub/DATASETS/NOAA/G02135/north/daily/geotiff
becomes
https://noaadata.apps.nsidc.org/NOAA/G02135/north/daily/
Both the FTP and HTTPS access methods will be available for 6 months, after that only the HTTPS access method will remain available. After 31 December 2023, FTP access to the data will no longer be possible.
We recommend switching to using HTTPS as soon as possible. Please see the following help article which describes the equivalent access methods for HTTPS: https://nsidc.org/data/user-resources/help-center/how-access-and-download-noaansidc-data
