User Notice: IMS Daily Northern Hemisphere Snow and Ice Analysis Files Renamed

On 18 April 2022, the IMS Daily Northern Hemisphere Snow and Ice Analysis files were renamed. Two updates were made to the file names:

  1. Addition of the timestamp to the file names for which the data are valid. This was applied to all the files archived at NSIDC from 2014 to present (V1.1, V1.2 and V1.3).
  2. The V1.1 and V1.2 filenames are now consistent with the way the V1.3 files are named.
For update #1, the file names now include a UTC time code of 00UTC: imsYYYYDDD_00UTC_Xkm_vZ.z.asc.gz where YYYYDDD is the 4-digit year and 3-digit day of year, 00UTC indicates that the data are valid at 0:00 UTC for the date in the file name, Xkm is the resolution (1km, 4km, or 24km), and vZ.z is the version number (v1.1, v1.2, or v1.3). For update #2, the V1.1 and V1.2 files have had their date incremented by one day so that the file name reflects the data for which the data are valid, instead of when they were created. For example, a date of 2009245 has been updated to 2009246.
