Data Announcement

New Version: High Mountain Asia Landslide Catalog, Version 2

The High Mountain Asia Landslide Catalog, Version 2 dataset is now available through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). The catalog is an inventory of some 2800 landslides that occurred in the High Mountain Asia (HMA) study area between 5 January 2007 and 31 December 2018, as well as one event from 28 January 1990. The catalog lists the dates and locations of the landslides, along with additional characteristics such as event triggers, country, length and area of the slide, and the number of injuries and fatalities.

The events listed in this version are limited to the HMA study area and include corrections and new landslides added to the Cooperative Open Online Landslide Repository (COOLR) source catalog. COOLR was created to provide a more comprehensive and publicly available inventory of landslides by supplementing the data in the NASA Global Landslide Catalog with citizen science reports.

Version 1 of this dataset will be retired from the NSIDC DAAC on 19 July 2023. After this date, access to the data will no longer be available, but the dataset documentation will remain available for future reference.
