NOAA@NSIDC is pleased to announce the release of the International Ice Patrol Annual North Atlantic Iceberg Summaries and Reports, Version 1 data set. This data set contains yearly summaries and reports of iceberg sightings from the International Ice Patrol (IIP) in the North Atlantic (40° N to 60° N, 40° W to 60° W), beginning in 2024. Each season includes two PDF files: a one-page summary and a comprehensive iceberg season report. The summary provides a concise graphical overview. Each year’s iceberg season severity is ranked as light, moderate, severe, or extreme, and given historical context in a graph of annual severity beginning in 1900. The summary also includes a monthly graph of the year’s number of icebergs estimated crossing south of 48° N, along with the climatological average. The International Ice Patrol (IIP) has monitored iceberg activity in the North Atlantic since 1913.
