New data set: Marginal Ice Zone 2014 Field Campaign, Version 1

NSIDC is pleased to announce the release of the Marginal Ice Zone 2014 Field Campaign, Version 1 data set. The field campaign was a component of a U.S. Office of Naval Research (ONR) Departmental Research Initiative (DRI), and was led by the Applied Physics Laboratory at the University of Washington (APL-UW). Data were collected in the Beaufort Sea using drifting, mobile, and moored autonomous platforms over an intense period of observation that took place primarily in the summer of 2014.   Instruments deployed on and under the ice sampled though the melt season as platforms drifted westward and the ice retreated northward. This ONR DRI was designed to better understand thermodynamic and dynamic processes that govern ice breakup and the seasonal evolution of the marginal ice zone.  The Arctic Sea State 2015 Field Campaign data are from a parallel ONR-sponsored program that focused on wave and ice interactions in fall, as ice advances in the Beaufort Sea.

Data were prepared for publication and are archived, maintained, and distributed by NSIDC through the support of the Office of Naval Research, Award Number N00014-19-1-2554.
