Data set updates: New NASA Earthdata Cloud access option for the AMSR-E and AMSR Unified collections available on 18 February 2025

The NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) will add 31 data sets from the AMSR-E and AMSR-E/AMSR2 Unified collections to NASA Earthdata Cloud on 18 February 2025. Earthdata Cloud is NASA’s archive of Earth observations, hosted in Amazon Web Services (AWS). While these data sets will continue to be available via their current URLs and workflows, these legacy access methods will be retired soon. Therefore, users are encouraged to update their direct download workflows, including any data download scripts, to use the new Earthdata Cloud HTTPS location after 18 February 2025. The Earthdata Cloud HTTPS data access URL will be available from each data set landing page using the HTTPS File System link under Data Access & Tools after the publication date.

The URL for access to the legacy HTTPS File System will be removed from the data set landing page when the data are added to Earthdata Cloud. However, you can continue to find legacy HTTPS URL in the Programmatic Data Access Guide at https://nsidc.org/data/user-resources/help-center/programmatic-data-access-guide.

Please note, newly ingested data may be available on the legacy HTTPS File System a few hours before the data are available on the new Earthdata Cloud HTTPS File System. In rare cases, data may take up to 2 days to become available in Earthdata Cloud.

The NSIDC DAAC User Services Office currently supports users with direct data download from the Earthdata Cloud HTTPS and with basic access to our AWS Simple Storage Service (S3) buckets. For more details on the access options, please see the following help resources: https://nsidc.org/data/user-resources/help-center/nasa-earthdata-cloud-data-access-guide

See the AMSR-E and AMSR Unified data pages for a listing of data sets at https://nsidc.org/data/amsre/data and https://nsidc.org/data/amsru/data.
