Data set updates: Multiple ATLAS/ICESat-2 data sets updating to Version 6

Multiple ATLAS/ICESat-2 data sets, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), are being updated to Version 6. These along-track data sets contain land-ice surface heights;  terrain and canopy surface heights; calibrated, attenuated backscatter profiles and atmospheric layer characteristics; and global sea surface heights. The spatial coverage is global, excluding the “pole holes” north of 88ºN and south of 88ºS.  The temporal coverage spans 14 October 2018 through 02 March 2023.  Processing of Version 6 of these four data sets is ongoing and gaps in the times series are being filled in daily.

Important information for data users:  ATL06, ATL08, and ATL12 Version 6 include geolocation updates resulting in mean photon height offsets between Version 5 and Version 6.  Comparing heights between versions is not advised.

Please note that Version 5 of these data sets will be retired 6 months after the full temporal coverage for Version 6 becomes available.
