The MEaSUREs Global Record of Daily Landscape Freeze/Thaw Status, Version 5 data set, available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated to version 5.2. This minor version update expands the temporal coverage of the dataset, with data now spanning 1 January 1979 to 31 December 2023. Additionally, all HDF files have been reprocessed to update/correct file metadata. Furthermore, all filenames have been updated to include the dataset short name “NSIDC-0477”, and their version numbers updated to “v05.2”.
This data set contains a global record of the daily freeze/thaw status of the landscape. The record is derived from radiometric brightness temperatures acquired between 1979 and 2023 by four satellite-based, passive microwave sensors: the Scanning Multichannel Microwave Radiometer (SMMR), the Special Sensor Microwave/Imager (SSM/I), the Special Sensor Microwave Imager/Sounder (SSMIS), and the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 (AMSR2). This data set is part of the Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) Program.
