Morphometric Characteristics of Ice and Snow in the Arctic Basin: Aircraft Landing Observations from the Former Soviet Union, 1928-1989, Version 1

This data set contains sea ice and snow measurements collected during aircraft landings associated with the Soviet Union's historical Sever airborne and North Pole drifting station programs. The data set contains measurements of 23 parameters, including ice thickness and snow depth on the runway and surrounding area; ridge, hummock, and sastrugi dimensions and areal coverage; and snow density.

This is the most recent version of these data.

Parameter(s):
  • Sea Ice > FREEBOARD
  • Sea Ice > Ice Roughness > Hummocks
  • Sea Ice > Ice Deformation > ICE DEFORMATION
  • Sea Ice > Ice Depth/Thickness > ICE DEPTH/THICKNESS
  • Sea Ice > Ice Floes > Length
  • Sea Ice > Sastrugi
  • Snow/Ice > Snow Density > SNOW DENSITY
  • Sea Ice > Snow Depth > SNOW DEPTH
