Overview

The VIIRS Snow Covered Area and Grain-size (VIIRS SCAG) and VIIRS Dust Radiative Forcing in Snow (VIIRS DRFS) algorithms are applied to near real-time VIIRS JPSS-1/NOAA20 surface reflectance data (VJ109GA_NRT). The combined dataset VJ1SCGDRF_NRT includes the following parameters: snow fraction, snow grain size , vegetation fraction, rock fraction, ice fraction, and shade fraction from the SCAG algorithm (Painter et al, 2009) and snow darkening, radiative forcing, and snow grain size from the DRFS algorithm (Painter et al, 2012). More information on the application of SCAG to the VIIRS sensor is detailed in Rittger et al, 2021. These data are provided in NetCDF format, and the data are released by individual tiles or by region of tiles.
