Parameter Description:
The map shows six parameters:
- Zonal, subzonal and altitude-zoned types and sub-types of landscapes
- Extent of permafrost (Percent of Area)
- Seasonal Frozen Ground
- Ice Caps and Glaciers
- Boundaries
- Locations of meteorological stations and station numbers.
These parameters are described in the Map Legend.
Software and Tools
The digital map was created in Geograph. Geograph is a Geographic Information System developed by the GIS Research Center, Institute of Geography, Russian Academy of Sciences.
A free version of Geograph with restricted functionality (Geograph Mini) is available and can be downloaded from ftp://geocnt.geonet.ru/pub/ggwmini. This is a windows package. Three .arj files must be downloaded from the ftp site. The files need to be unpacked using WinZip. Then run setup.exe from the Disk1 folder.
