The Snow Melt Onset Over Arctic Sea Ice from SMMR and SSM/I-SSMIS Brightness Temperatures, Version 4 data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set includes yearly snow melt onset dates derived from Scanning Multichannel Microwave Radiometer (SMMR), Special Sensor Microwave/Imager (SSM/I), and the Special Sensor Microwave Imager/Sounder (SSMIS) brightness temperature measurements.
New data access options are available for the MEaSUREs Greenland Ice Mapping Project (GIMP) 2000 Image Mosaic, Version 1 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). The download location for this data set has changed, and both spatial and temporal searching are now available through Earthdata Search.
The first data sets from NASA’s Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) are now available from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC).
Multiple Level-1B, Level-2, and Level-3A data sets from the Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) mission are now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). These data sets provide backscatter profiles; geolocated photon data; atmospheric layer characteristics; and geolocated surface elevations for land ice, sea ice, vegetation and land, and inland water. The data are available beginning 13 October 2018 and may have gaps in coverage due to processing lag times.

The Quicklook Arctic Weekly EASE-Grid Sea Ice Motion Vectors, Version 1 data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set is the quicklook version of the Polar Pathfinder Daily 25 km EASE-Grid Sea Ice Motion Vectors data product. It contains weekly sea ice motion vectors, as well as browse images, from 01 January 2019 through the present.
The Quicklook Arctic Weekly EASE-Grid Sea Ice Age, Version 1 data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set is the quicklook version of the EASE-Grid Sea Ice Age product. It contains weekly estimates of sea ice age for the Arctic Ocean, as well as browse images, from 01 January 2019 through the present. The data are derived from the Quicklook Arctic Weekly EASE-Grid Sea Ice Motion Vectors data set.
Data set update: MEaSUREs Northern Hemisphere Polar EASE-Grid 2.0 Daily 6 km Land Freeze/Thaw Status
The MEaSUREs Northern Hemisphere Polar EASE-Grid 2.0 Daily 6 km Land Freeze/Thaw Status from AMSRE and AMSR2, Version 1 data set, available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated to include data through 31 December 2017. This data set, part of the Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) Program, consists of a Northern Hemisphere daily landscape freeze/thaw status at 6 km resolution.
The Multilayer Greenland Ice Surface Temperature, Surface Albedo, and Water Vapor from MODIS, Version 1 data set has been updated to a standard level of service at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). More extensive documentation and support options are now available for this data set.
The AfriSAR LVIS L0 Raw Ranges, Version 1 data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) from 20 February 2016 through 08 March 2016. This data set contains raw laser altimeter, Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), Global Positioning System (GPS), and camera files over Gabon, Africa, taken from the NASA Land, Vegetation, and Ice Sensor (LVIS). The data were collected as part of a NASA campaign in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA) mission, AfriSAR.
The ABoVE LVIS L0 Raw Ranges, Version 1 data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) from 29 June 2017 through 17 July 2017. This data set contains raw laser altimeter, Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), Global Positioning System (GPS), and camera files over Alaska and Western Canada taken from the NASA Land, Vegetation, and Ice Sensor (LVIS).
The AMSR-E/AMSR2 Unified Global 25-km EASE-grid Snow Water Equivalent, Version 1 data sets (daily; 5-day; monthly) are now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). These data sets provide estimates of Snow Water Equivalent (SWE) derived from brightness temperature measurements acquired by the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 (AMSR2) instrument on board the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) GCOM-W1 satellite.
The MEaSUREs Greenland Image Mosaics from Sentinel-1A and -1B, Version 2 data set, available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated with mosaics through February 2019. This data set, part of the Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) Program, provides 6 and 12-day 50 m resolution image mosaics of the Greenland coastline and ice sheet periphery beginning in January 2015.
The Daily Global Land Parameters Derived from AMSRE and AMSR2, Version 2 data set, available from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated to include data through 31 December 2018. This data set contains satellite-retrieved geophysical parameter files generated from the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer - Earth Observing System (AMSRE) instrument aboard NASA's Aqua satellite and the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 (AMSR2) sensor aboard the JAXA GCOM-W1 satellite.
Additional High Mountain Asia glacier thickness change data sets are now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). These data sets contain thickness change measurements for approximately 650 Himalayan glaciers between 1975 and 2000, and 1040 Himalayan glaciers between 2000 and 2016. These data were derived from KH-9 HEXAGON and ASTER digital elevation models (DEMs) and are provided at a spatial resolution of 30 m.
The IceBridge Sander AIRGrav L1B Geolocated Free Air Gravity Anomalies, Version 1 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated to include 2018 Antarctic campaign data. This data set contains Greenland and Antarctica gravity measurements taken from the Sander Geophysics AIRGrav airborne gravity system. Data are now available from 16 October 2009 to 17 November 2018.
The IceBridge Scintrex CS-3 Cesium Magnetometer L1B Geolocated Magnetic Anomalies, Version 2 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated to include 2017 Antarctic campaign data. This data set contains magnetic field readings taken over Antarctica using the Scintrex CS-3 Cesium Magnetometer instrument. Data are now available from 18 November 2013 to 25 November 2017.
The data access URL's for the following IceBridge data sets, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), have changed from https://n5eil01u.ecs.nsidc.org/ICEBRIDGE_FTP/ to https://daacdata.apps.nsidc.org/pub/DATASETS/ICEBRIDGE/. Users accessing these data sets through a script will need to update accordingly.
The Daily 4 km Gridded SWE and Snow Depth from Assimilated In-Situ and Modeled Data over the Conterminous US, Version 1 data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set, developed at the University of Arizona (UA), provides daily 4 km Snow Water Equivalent (SWE) and snow depth over the conterminous United States from 1 October 1981 to 30 September 2017.
The Canadian Meteorological Centre (CMC) Daily Snow Depth Analysis Data, Version 1 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated, extending the temporal coverage from 01 August 1998 to 31 December 2018. This data set includes snow depth (in cm) and estimated Snow Water Equivalent (SWE; in mm) for the Northern Hemisphere. The data are provided in a standard polar stereographic projection and with 24 km grid spacing.
