NSIDC is pleased to announce that we have added new regions to Snow Today that include Alaska and four Canadian provinces (Yukon, Northwest Territories, British Columbia, and Alberta). This comes as part of Snow Today’s ongoing data expansion effort.
The SMAP Radiometer Twice-Daily rSIR-Enhanced EASE-Grid 2.0 Brightness Temperatures, Version 3 data set, available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated through December 31, 2025. This data set contains twice-daily, enhanced-resolution brightness temperature data produced by image reconstruction of the standard SMAP product, SMAP L1B Radiometer Half-Orbit Time-Ordered Brightness Temperatures (SPL1BTB).

The MEaSUREs Multi-year Reference Velocity Maps of the Antarctic Ice Sheet, Version 1 data set, available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated. Temporal coverage has been extended, with a new map added covering 1 July 2020 – 30 June 2022.
The MEaSUREs Annual Antarctic Ice Velocity Maps, Version 1 data set, available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated. New data has been added, extending the temporal coverage to June 30, 2025.
ATLAS/ICESat-2 L3B Slope-Corrected Land Ice Height Time Series (ATL11), Version 6, ATLAS/ICESat-2 L3B Daily and Monthly Gridded Sea Ice Freeboard (ATL20), Version 4 and ATLAS/ICESat-2 L3B Daily and Monthly Gridded Polar Sea Surface Height Anomaly (ATL21), Version 3 will be retired from the NSIDC DAAC on 11 May 2026.
The IceBridge Gravimeter L3 Bathymetry, Version 1 (IGBTH3) and IceBridge Gravimeter L4 Bathymetry, Version 1 (IGBTH4) data sets (formerly known as IceBridge Sander AIRGrav L3 Bathymetry and IceBridge Sander AIRGrav L4 Bathymetry, respectively), available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), have been updated.

The SnowEx23 Oct22 IOP Snow Depth Profiles, Version 1 (SNEX23_Oct22_Profiles) and SnowEx23 Oct23 IOP Snow Depth Profiles, Version 1 (SNEX23_Oct23_Profiles) data sets are now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). These data sets contain boreal forest and tundra snow depth profile measurements in Northern Alaska, USA; data were collected during the October 2022 and October 2023 intensive observatio
The Near Real-time SMAP L1B Radiometer Half-Orbit Time-Ordered Brightness Temperatures, Version 105, and Near Real-time SMAP L2 Radiometer Half-Orbit 36 km EASE-Grid Soil Moisture, Version 107 data sets, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), have a scheduled maintenance activity on March 18, 2026, for both NRT and Forward Production.
ATLAS/ICESat-2 L3B Mission Composite Gridded Terrain and Canopy Elevation Parameters, Version 1 (ATL18) and ATLAS/ICESat-2 L3B Monthly Gridded Terrain and Canopy Elevation Parameters, Version 1 (ATL28) are now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC).
Version 2 of Arctic Sea Ice Seasonal Change and Melt/Freeze Climate Indicators from Satellite Data, Version 2, is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This new version includes updates to input data sources and extends the temporal coverage through 2024. More information about the new version is available in the user guide. 
Version 5 of ATLAS/ICESat-2 L3B Weekly Gridded Atmosphere, Version 5 of ATLAS/ICESat-2 L3B Monthly Gridded Atmosphere, Version 3 of ATLAS/ICESat-2 L3B Monthly Gridded Dynamic Ocean Topography, Version 1 of ATLAS/ICESat-2 L3B Monthly 3-Month Gridded Dynamic Ocean Topography, and Version 3 of ATLAS/ICESat-2 L3B Mean Inland Surface Water
Forward processing of the Calibrated Enhanced-Resolution Passive Microwave Daily EASE-Grid 2.0 Brightness Temperature ESDR, Version 2 data set, available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been paused since 3 March 2026 due to maintenance. This change affects only forward processing and does not affect existing data. Forward processing is estimated to resume in the coming weeks. 
The Bootstrap Sea Ice Concentrations from Nimbus-7 SMMR and DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS, Version 4 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated to include new data through 31 August 2025. This data set consists of daily and monthly sea ice concentrations derived from brightness temperature measurements. This dataset is available for the north and south polar regions, with temporal coverage extending back to 1 November 1978.
The MEaSUREs Greenland Ice Mapping Project (GIMP) Land Ice and Ocean Classification Mask, Version 1 data set, available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated. Temporal coverage has been expanded, with land ice and ocean masks added for the year 2020. The data set now provides land ice and ocean masks for the years 2000, 2015, and 2020.
VIIRS/JPSS1 Snow Cover Daily L3 Global 375m SIN Grid, Version 2 and VIIRS/NPP Snow Cover Daily L3 Global 375m SIN Grid, Version 2 data sets, available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) are now available on the Application for Extracting and Exploring Analysis Ready Samples (AppEEARS). AppEEARS offers a simple and efficient way to access and transform geospatial data from a variety of federal data archives.
The Daily Global Land Parameters Derived from AMSR-E and AMSR2, Version 3 data set, available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated. New data has been added, with the temporal range for this dataset now spanning 19 June 2002 to 31 December 2023.
The TRMM PR SIR-Enhanced EASE-Grid 2.0 Surface Radar Backscatter, Version 1 (NSIDC-0807), and ERS SIR-Enhanced EASE-Grid 2.0 Radar Backscatter, Version 1 (NSIDC-0808), are now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC).
The MEaSUREs Antarctic Grounding Line from Differential Satellite Radar Interferometry, Version 2 (NSIDC-0498), and the MEaSUREs Grounding Zone of the Antarctic Ice Sheet, Version 1 (NSIDC-0778) data sets, available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), have been updated to versions 2.1 and 1.1, respectively.
