The Antarctic Glaciological Data Center (AGDC) at NSIDC is pleased to announce the release of a new data set, Reedy Glacier Exposure Ages, Antarctica Data. This data set contains site, sample, and analytical data from which to calculate cosmogenic nuclide-based exposure ages for glacial deposits adjacent to Reedy Glacier, Antarctica.
The NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) is pleased to announce the release of the EASE-Grid Sea Ice Age data set. This data set provides weekly estimates of sea ice age for the Arctic Ocean from remotely sensed sea ice motion and sea ice extent beginning in November 1978. The ice age data are derived from a number of passive microwave imagers, visible and infrared radiometers, drifting buoys, and wind data.
To meet a need for greater accuracy and higher resolution in ice concentration fields that are used to initialize an operational sea ice forecast model, a new sea ice concentration product has been developed by NOAA@NSIDC. Known as MASAM2, this sea ice concentration is a blend of two other daily sea ice data products. First is ice coverage from MASIE, the Multisensor Analyzed Sea Ice Extent product, at a 4 km grid cell size. Second are ice concentrations from the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 (AMSR2) at a 10 km grid cell size.
The NOAA@NSIDC program is pleased to announce that the Sea Ice Index data set has been updated with a reduced Arctic pole hole and improved Northern Hemisphere masks for removing spurious ice caused by residual weather effects. Beginning 01 January 2008, the data will include a pole hole that covers 0.029 million sq km rather than the previous pole hole of 1.19 million square kilometers. In addition, an error in the pole hole used for data from 01 July 1987 to 31 December 2007 was corrected.
