NOAA@NSIDC is pleased to announce that the NOAA@NSIDC Climate Data Record of Passive Microwave Sea Ice Concentration, Version 2 data set is now available through 2014. This data set provides a Climate Data Record (CDR) of sea ice concentration from passive microwave data. It provides a consistent, daily and monthly time series of sea ice concentrations from 09 July 1987 through 2014 for both the north and south polar regions on a 25 km x 25 km grid. A CU Boulder CIRES press release, Better Daily Sea Ice Forecasts for the Arctic Following CU-Boulder-led Innovation, was occasioned by the publication of a paper by Posey et al. titled Improving Arctic Sea Ice Edge Forecasts by Assimilating High Horizontal Resolution Sea Ice Concentration Data into the US Navy's Ice Forecast Systems (2015). The press release highlights improvements brought about by blending a product based on National Ice Center analysts interpretation of sea ice extent with passive microwave AMSR2 sea ice concentration data.
NASA IceBridge DMS L0 Raw Imagery 2015 Greenland data are now available from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). NOAA@NSIDC is pleased to announce that the Submarine Upward Looking Sonar Ice Draft Profile Data and Statistics data set has been updated with historical data from 1960, 1969, and 1970. This data set consists of upward looking sonar draft data collected by submarines in the Arctic Ocean. It includes data from both U.S. Navy and Royal Navy submarine.
The Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) Program, at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), is pleased to announce the release of a new data set.
NASA IceBridge MCoRDS L2 Ice Thickness data for 2014 Antarctica are now available from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains depth sounder measurements of elevation, surface, bottom, and thickness for Greenland and Antarctica taken from the Multichannel Coherent Radar Depth Sounder (MCoRDS). The NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) is pleased to announce that the DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS Pathfinder Daily EASE-Grid Brightness Temperatures, Version 2 data set has been updated through 30 June 2015. The data set consists of gridded brightness temperatures from the Special Sensor Microwave/Imager (SSM/I) and the Special Sensor Microwave Imager/Sounder (SSMIS) in three equal-area projections: Northern Hemisphere, Southern Hemisphere, and full global.
NASA IceBridge DMS L1B Geolocated and Orthorectified Images for 2015 Greenland are now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains Level-1B imagery taken from the Digital Mapping System (DMS) over Greenland and Antarctica. Data set DOI: https://doi.org/10.5067/OZ6VNOPMPRJ0
NASA IceBridge L4 Sea Ice Freeboard, Snow Depth, and Thickness 2009 and 2010 Antarctica data are now available from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). Greenland data for 26 March 2013, 27 March 2013, and 25 April 2013 also have been added to the data set. In addition, in the previous version of IDCSI4 data files, it was discovered that the Surface Temperature variable was blank. Surface Temperature values are now included.
NASA IceBridge-related Radiostratigraphy and Age Structure of the Greenland Ice Sheet data are now published at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC).
The NASA IceBridge ATM L2 Icessn Elevation, Slope, and Roughness (ILATM2) Version 2 data set now includes all data from 31 March 2009 to present. On 10 August 2015, Version 1 fixed-width space-delimited ASCII text files for 31 March 2009 to 08 November 2012 were replaced with Comma Separated Values (CSV) files and are now included with ILATM2 Version 2 data.
The NASA IceBridge ATM L4 Surface Elevation Rate of Change data set now includes measurements based on comparisons of earlier years with 2014. The data are available from NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). Compared dates include: 2002.11.26, 2004.11.18, 2008.10.12, 2009.10.16, 2010.11.05, 2011.10.14 and 2012.10.12.
NASA IceBridge POS/AV L1B Corrected Position and Attitude Data for Arctic 2015 are now available from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains georeferencing data from the Applanix 510 POS AV system flown with the Digital Mapping System (DMS) and other instruments over Greenland and Antarctica. We are pleased to announce that the beta version of Level-1 radiometer data from NASA’s Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) mission is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). In addition, the beta version of Level-1 radar data is now available at the NASA Alaska Satellite Facility (ASF DAAC).
The Antarctic Glaciological Data Center (AGDC) at NSIDC is pleased to announce the release of a new data set, Borehole Temperatures at Pine Island Glacier, Antarctica. This data set is a time series of borehole temperatures at different depths from three thermistor strings deployed in three boreholes drilled through the Pine Island Glacier ice shelf, Antarctica.
NOAA@NSIDC is pleased to announce some enhancements to the Glacier Photograph Collection Search & Order interface. Enhancements include making it easier and more apparent how to add photos to an order and how to place an order. In addition, the metadata fields were fine-tuned and improved to increase the discoverability of the photos.
The Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) Program, at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), is pleased to announce that six of its data sets can now be readily geolocated by popular geospatial software packages such as GDAL and Panoply. The Antarctic Glaciological Data Center (AGDC) at NSIDC is pleased to announce the release of a new data set, Continuous, Ultra-high Resolution WAIS-Divide Ice Core Methane Record 9.8-67.2 ka BP. This data set contains methane concentrations for the Last Glacial Period and the deglacial transition from the WAID Divide ice core. The concentrations were determined through a continuous measurement technique (Stowasser, et al. 2012).
The Antarctic Glaciological Data Center (AGDC) at NSIDC is pleased to announce the release of a new data set, Inverted Basal Shear Stress of Antarctic and Greenland Ice Streams and Glaciers. This data set includes basal shear distributions inferred from surface observations under ten selected locations in Greenland and Antarctica.
