Dear colleagues,

I am offering a *Position of a University Assistant / PhD-position with
the focus on remote sensing of the cryosphere *(one focus will be on
rock glaciers and geomorphological processes in high mountain areas)
within the working group Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry at the
Institute of Geodesy, Graz University of Technology, Austria.

Workload: 40 hours / week, intended starting date: *01.04.2023*, for 4
years. End of the application period: 08.03.2023, 24:00 CET.

Please find more information below. Do not hesitate to contact me in
case you have any questions.

Best regards,

Tobias Bolch

*/Background/*

The *Working Group Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry *at the Institute
of Geodesy at TU Graz focusses on the investigation and monitoring of
different components of the crysophere as well as hazards in different
mountain regions of the Earth with the focus on the Austrian Alps and
High Mountain Asia. For this we apply different optical and microwave
remote sensing data and develop methods and algorithm to map different
land cover types and objects and assess and monitor their changes. We
also teach basic and advanced remote sensing and photogrammetry at
bachelor and master level with the focus on the physical background,
algorithms and relevant applications.

*/Specifics and Responsibilities of the Position/*

The candidate should contribute to the research of the group and apply
and further develop remote sensing and photogrammetric methods and
generate digital elevation models from various sources to identify and
monitor glaciers, rock glaciers and geomorphological processes in high
mountain areas. He/she should develop related software and algorithms
and also perform field work with detailed measurements using UAVs and
Laser scanners. He/she is expected to write a PhD thesis and scientific
articles. Moreover, the candidate should support the teaching activities
of the working group and supervise Bachelor and Master theses.

*/Required Qualifications/*:

Prerequisite is a MSc in Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing, or Geography or
similar subject with the focus on remote sensing or a similar
qualification at a national or international school or university.
Profound knowledge in remote sensing and photogrammetry and relevant
software packages (ErdasImagine, Geomatica, SNAP, Agisoft or similar) as
well as experiences in working with different optical sensors are
expected. Experiences with different microwave sensors and data
acquisition with UAVs and laser-scanners are an advantage.

The candidate should be proficient in at least one programming language
(e.g. C++, Python). Moreover he/she should be fluent in English and have
at least some basic knowledge in German or is willing to learn the
German language. Knowledge in glaciology and geomorphological processes
are an advantage but not a prerequisite.

We offer a *minimum annual gross salary based on full-time of €
45,882.20, overpayment possible depending on qualification and experience*.

Graz University of Technology actively promotes diversity and equal
opportunities.

People with disabilities and who have the relevant qualifications are
expressly invited to apply.

We look forward to your complete application (incl. motivation letter,
CV, list of publications and presentations) at our TU Graz job portal
