Dear GLIMS colleagues and Patagonia researchers:

Apologies for cross listings and redundancy of postings on this opportunity.

Below is a forwarded Cryolist message posted by Umesh Haritashya (University of Dayton, Ohio, USA). It is a notice of a postdoc position, where our HiMAT project (High Mountain Asia Team--"Asia" interpreted liberally to include the Andes!) requires use of a specialized code for hyperspectral data analysis of Pataginia's glaciers and turbid waters (glacial lakes and rivers) to gain an improved understanding of the causes of variability of suspended particle matter in these water bodies; that includes normal seasonal variations, climate change impacts on those variations, and the possible links of turbidity spikes to glacier dynamics, landslides, avalanches, rainfall and snowmelt runoff floods, glacial lake outburst floods, and other disturbances to the normal seasonal changes in turbidity.

The postdoc position will involve residency in Dayton, Ohio. We seek applications from American and foreign candidates, those with experience in Patagonian glaciology or mountain hazards, or similar experience elsewhere, and expertise in hyperspectral or multispectral satellite image analysis and related code development. Please see Umesh's message below for other details and a link to apply. We will begin review iof applications soon. If you intend to apply but need some time to prepare an application, please notify Umesh so that we can wait just a bit to include your application in our selection process.

Sincerely,
Jeff Kargel

The application review will begin soon, but there is still time to apply for this postdoc position.

Best,
Umesh

The postdoctoral position focuses on glacier-lake-climate interactions, modeling, and related geohazards and disaster resilience. Beyond this big picture, the primary responsibility of the postdoc will be to analyze hyperspectral EMIT data alongside Landsat and other satellite imagery to: (1) Implement GLAMBioLith RT analysis on EMIT data to estimate suspended sediment abundances; (2) Design and apply correlations with Landsat and other multispectral data; (3) Run necessary algorithms and validate outputs.

Candidates can review the previous version of the model using the open-access code<https://github.com/nsidc/HMA_GLAM_BioLithRT_5> or related paper<https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/earthscience/articles/10.3389/feart.2019.00267/full>.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to expand your skills and contribute to innovative research on the impacts of climate change on mountain glaciers and glacial lakes as well as disaster resilience.

Visit university webpage<https://employment.udayton.edu/en-us/job/500659/post-doctoral-researcher> for detailed information and to apply. Please note, you must submit: (1) A cover letter detailing your research interests and how your experience aligns with the position's minimum and preferred requirements and qualifications; (2) A detailed CV; (3) Names of three professional references.

Feel free to reach out if you have questions, and please share with anyone who may be interested.

Apologies for any cross-listing.

Best,
Umesh
