Dear GLIMS colleagues,I draw your attention to this workshop on the theme of mountain cryospheric hazards. Due to funding constraints I will be unable to participate, but I strongly urge you to consider this meeting if your work involves any aspect of glacier and permafrost hazards in mountain areas. Please note the abstract and registration deadline on August 1.If you have any connection to this hazards theme and this work involves GLIMS, and wish to provide an abstract, please use 'GLIMS' (or Global Land Ice Measurements from Space) as a keyword anywhere in your abstract, if it is appropriate (the same is true for any publication).Sincerely,Jeff Kargel

Subject: gaphaz workshop, 14 sept 2014, torino
Dear
colleagues,
we
are pleased to send you the official announcement and program of
the GAPHAZ workshop on 14 September
in Torino. GAPHAZ ist the Joint Standing Group on Glacier and
Permafrost
Hazards in Mountains of the International Association of
Cryospheric Sciences (IACS)
and the International Permafrost Association (IPA).
The
workshop has been announced earlier and in the mean time we have
elaborated the
structure and organization of the workshop. You will see that we
will have 4
sessions that cut through different thematic aspects.
The
workshop aims at an exchange among experts and clearly also at
producing a
document on standards in our field. Ken Hewitt is leading this
particular
process and a draft should be produced before the workshop.
According
to the objectives we have reserved a good amount of time for
moderated
discussions and exchange, but we also encourage you to submit an
abstract for
poster presentation.
Deadline
for registration and abstract submission is 1 August 2014
(all further
information to be found in the document attached).
We
scheduled this workshop just the day before the Engineering
Geology conference (IAEG) starts, so that at least several among
you can profit from
both meetings (and the city of Torino and the Piemonte Region
are great
attractions by themselves, just to mention this)
We
greatly appreciate the on-site support by our Torino colleagues
to host
this meeting. We try to provide a no-cost meeting (sponsoring
pending), or have to collect a some
small amount of money for coffee breaks etc.
Please
feel free to share this information with your colleagues
interested in glacier,
permafrost, snow and high-mountain hazards and risks.
Christian,
along with Ken, John and Michael
