dear Colleagues,
sorry for cross-posting. We invite you to submit an abstract to our session
on CR6.2 on Debris covered glaciers,* there is one day left!*
In the past, we've had a great number of submissions focused on the
Himalayan glaciers, but also other mountain regions of the world, and so
various opportunities for exchange of ideas. There is increased interest in
the behavior of debris-covered glaciers, and I hope you can contribute!!!
hope to see you there,
Lindsey, Christoph, Adina and Ben

Deadline for abstracts: *Thursday 16th January*
Dates of meeting: 27 April - 2 May
Submitting an abstract costs €40

*Session description: Debris-covered glaciers are a prominent feature in
many glacierized mountain regions. The presence of a surface debris cover
fundamentally alters the surface energy balance and consequently the mass
balance of these glaciers, partially decoupling them from the climate
system. This influences the way glaciers will develop under different
climate scenarios and poses a challenge when inferring former climate
conditions from geological records of such glaciers. This session aims to
draw together knowledge on all aspects of debris-covered glacier systems,
and we invite contributions including, but not limited to, (i) origins and
characteristics of supraglacial debris cover; (ii) measurements or modeling
of energy balance of debris-covered ice; (iii) mass balance measurements or
modeling of debris-covered glaciers; (iv) the impact of debris cover on
glacier dynamics; (v) depositional records of debris-covered glaciers,
reconstructions of former glaciers and climatic interpretations of the
depositional record; (vi) hydrology of debris-covered glaciers and the
development of associated glacier lake outburst flood hazards and (v)
remote sensing and field techniques for measuring properties of debris
covered glaciers.*
