Postdoctoral Research Positions in Remote
Sensing/GIS and Alpine Glacier Assessment.

The Department of Geography and Geology at the University of Nebraska at
Omaha
invites applications for two Post-Doctoral research positions involving
the use of
remote sensing/GIS for studying and mapping alpine glaciers in
Afghanistan and Pakistan.
This work is part of the international Global Land Ice Measurements from
Space (GLIMS)
project that has been funded by NASA. The successful candidates should
have a Ph.D. in
geography, geology, or related fields (ABD will be considered).
Experience in remote
sensing, GIS, and Earth science is required. Preference will be given to
candidates with
strong numerical, computer, and communication skills.  Work duties
include contributing
to ongoing research involving glacier mapping, change detection, surface
energy budget,
glacier flow modeling, and the population of the GLIMS database.
Research positions are
to start January 2005, and applications will be taken and reviewed until
successful candidates
are found.  Positions are available for three years pending annual
review and availability of funds.
