Why can't I convert IMS ascii data into a raster in ArcMap?

The problem is that some IMS ascii files were created without spaces in the text in the columns and rows. ArcMap won't read it unless there are spaces (for example)

00000011112220000 - ArcMap won't read
0 0 0 0 0 1 1 1 1 1 2 2 2 - ArcMap will read

You will need to convert the file to have spaces using a program like IDL

You will also need to delete header information at the top of the ASCII file you are working with. The header information that will need to be inserted is:

NCOLS 1024
NROWS 1024
XLLCORNER -12126597.0
YLLCORNER -12126840.0
CELLSIZE 23684.997

 Note: In the ASCII data files for this data set, the index (1,1) starts at the lower left corner of the grid where the top of the file is South America, the left side is the Pacific Ocean, the right side is Africa, and the bottom is Indonesia.
