Exploring the Dynamics of High Latitude Carbon Balance
This project is funded by the NOAA Office of Global Programs
Objective
To quantify carbon dioxide and methane emissions from thawing permafrost
Collaborators
Kevin Schaefer is the PI, and Tingjun Zhang (NSIDC) and Lori Bruhwiler (NOAA) are Co-Investigators.
Project Summary
We are using the Simple Biosphere/Carnegie-Ames-Stanford Approach (SiBCASA) land surface model to make projections of permafrost degradation and emissions of CO2 and methane from thawing permafrost. We are studying the strength, timing, and dynamics of the permafrost carbon feedback.
