<div><font size="4" face="courier new,monospace"><strong>It is fortunate that I made contact with Jeff Kargel and learned that GLIMS (Global Land-Ice Measurements from Space)has been collecting glacier surface area-altitude(AA)distributions worldwide for over a year. Glacier AA profiles are precisely one of the variables used in the PTAA model. The other needed variables are long-term and accurate daily observations of precipitation, maximum and minimum temperatures collected at weather stations near (but not too near) each glacier. Collecting these data in some parts of the world is, of course, more difficult than in other regions. Therefore, obtaining a satisfactory data-set of these meteorological observations that can be applied to all 200 glaciers is going to take considerable effort and time. </strong></font></div>

If or when it is funded, I will be seeking a Project Manager who will oversee the initiation and running of the project. There also will be a need for 2-3 experienced people to assist the Project Manager. Birbal Rana and I (my health and age permitting)will be available to assist in all the tasks associated with getting the project underway and following it to completion. </strong></font></div>
