Dear Jeffrey

Thank you very much for remembering and mentioning it. Surely he would have been very proud that this list did.

Marco Zapata was a very well-known researcher in Peru and Latin America. For proof, he not only won very important awards in Peru (see https://www.agroperu.pe/reconocen-a-tres-investigadores-de-glaciares-y-montanas-del-peru/) but also his death was accompanied by almost all national media. Here are only some of the news coverage that accompanied his death in the Peruvian newspapers.
Thanks again for him and his family.

Dear GLIMS colleagues,I received word from the son of Marco Zapata (a glaciologist at INAIGEM, Huaraz, Perú), also named Marco, that the elder Zapata passed away on January 3, five months after being diagnosed with a cancer. The younger Marco asked that I inform colleagues of his father's passing.I met with Marco first in 2004 or 2005, and again in 2017. He was a very mild-mannered senior glaciologist. On my first visit to attend a mountain workshop and to investigate the situation with Palcacocha (lake), he led a field trip to some lakes, including one with GLOF mitigation measures and a hydroelectric power plant. Marco held a senior position in INAIGEM and was an important researcher in the glaciology and natural hazards of the Andes in Perú. Sincerely,Jeffrey Kargel_______________________________________________
