Hello all,

This mailing list has been quiet lately and it's time for a few updates.

1.  GLIMS data chosen as trusted data set for IPCC

2.  New data in GLIMS

     - Glacier inventory of Argentina from IANIGLA
     - Chukotka and Kolyma glaciers (Maria Ananicheva)
     - West Central Greenland (Frank Paul, glaciers_cci)
     - Franz Josef Land (Frank Paul, glaciers_cci)
     - Novaya Zemlya (Frank Paul, glaciers_cci)
     - Himalayan region (GAMDAM, Akiko Sakai)

More data have been received and are in process.


3.  Improved data download

The additional data led to performance problems in the download service,
which have now been fixed.


4.  Enhanced glacier information Web services

[Of interest to scripters and developers]  We've added a service that
returns information on a glacier given its GLIMS ID.  Included are the
"analysis ID", date, and area for each outline in GLIMS for the glacier.
(The name of the service that returns extensive information for a single
analysis ID was changed to "glacierinfo_full".)  See
http://www.glims.org/services for a summary of available services.


Much more work is planned for this summer, including inputting more data,
providing an "RGI On Demand" function (creation of RGI-like maps for
arbitrary dates from the GLIMS Database), and aesthetic improvements to the
GLIMS website.
