Dear Colleagues:
We announce the release of version 2.0 of a global inventory of glacier
outlines called the "Randolph Glacier Inventory", or RGI 2.0:
http://glims.org/RGI/
This dataset is an update to Version 1.0, released in February 2012.
Version 2.0 has been quality checked to eliminate a number of flaws, and
it includes a uniform set of data fields for each glacier complex,
replacement/addition of outlines and provision of a 1x1 degree global
grid of glacierized areas.
A technical document accompanies the dataset which should be used to
assess the quality of outlines for individual regions.
The data are supplemental to outlines already available through the
Global Land Ice Measurements from Space initiative (GLIMS), and are
provided under certain transitional usage constraints, all of which are
specified to users who request access to the data via the GLIMS website.
Please read these terms carefully before accessing and using the data.
We will post additional updates if we receive substantially improved
outlines prior to the IPCC deadline. We also welcome contributions
toward our longer term effort to provide a product that is fully
integrated with the existing GLIMS database.
We thank all of our colleagues who have provided data and expertise in
assembling this product.
Please contact us if you require further information.
