Hello all,
The GLIMS mailing list has recently changed. You are receiving this
because you are already a subscriber.
BACKGROUND
For years, the GLIMS mailing list has been hosted at the USGS in
Flagstaff, Arizona. The GLIMS center of gravity has moved away from that
institution, and they have recently made some changes to their IT
infrastructure which led to the discontinuation of the GLIMS list there.
We have just re-created the GLIMS mailing list at NSIDC, using a better
software system called "Mailman". It is the same system as is used by
Todd Albert for Cryolist. We have already transferred all addresses from
the old list to the new list. In addition, we have put all the GLIMS
list messages since 1999 in the archive, available at the URL below.
REQUIRED ACTIONS FOR YOU
None. :-)
OPTIONAL ACTIONS FOR YOU
The Web interface for the list is at
https://nsidc.org/mailman/listinfo/glims
Use this interface to view the archives, unsubscribe, suspend delivery
for a time, see who else is subscribed, or configure many other options.
Some of this activity will require a password, which you can obtain right
away by entering your email address in the field near the bottom of the
page and clicking the button "Unsubscribe or edit options". One option
is to have your password sent to you. You will also receive automatic
monthly reminders of your password. If you don't remember which email
address you used to subscribe to the glims list previously, send me a
note and I'll help figure that out.
Posting to the list is done by sending a message to
glims at nsidc.org
The first message from a new poster is held for moderator approval.
Thereafter, messages from that poster will bypass moderation and go
directly to the list. There will be a few moderators, so messages should
not be on hold for long in any case.
I apologize for the sudden nature of this switch -- it all happened rather
quickly, much of it while I was in Vienna for EGU last week. Hopefully it
will be a smooth transition and an improvement to the list. More
information about the mechanics of the list can be obtained at the URL
above.
Best regards,
Bruce Raup (list administrator)
