GLIMS listing for free ASTER

Dear GLIMS colleagues,
I have received a notice that one person's listing for no-cost ASTER data will be expiring soon. The messages below explain why that is the case for that specific person. Most of you will not be receiving a notice in coming weeks that your status is expiring, because it's not expiring until 16 months from now, when my account expires (hopefully it will be renewed). But if you do receive such a message, it's because you have a separate account which is due to expire; in that case, you should immediately send me the notice and request that you be re-listed under my account if you wish to continue receiving free ASTER imagery for GLIMS research.
Sincerely,
Jeff Kargel+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hi Mike,

Many, but not all, of the GLIMS participants
are included under Jeff's account to receive ASTER data at no charge. Jeff's
status is valid through June 2010, and per the current process he would
receive a notice of upcoming expiration in January 2010. For the applications
by individual members of the GLIMS team, a default of 3 years is set for
the duration of account validity if no additional information was provided
in the initial application. Otherwise, it would be as proposed by the investigator,
if approved by Woody.

Roger's status is indeed scheduled to
expire on 3/31/09. Our User Services staff recommend that he (and other
GLIMS team members receiving notices for expiration of privileges) ask
Jeff to be included under Jeff's account. User Services recommends that
Jeff then directly requests Woody's approval. If Woody agrees, then he
should instruct LP DAAC User Services to take the appropriate action. If
Jeff isn't sure who is included on his account now and wants to know, he
can contact our User Services staff to obtain the names.

         Ken

Leon and Michael,

Is this notice (below) an error, is it
particular to Roger Wheate, or does it mean we have to do the relisting
of people for "free ASTER" all over again? Or does this
notice mean that the whole system is changing so that everybody in the
general public will be able to access ASTER for free? What's going
on? I might have missed something at the ASTER Sci Team meeting last
December.
