Hi all,
Just to check my understanding of the status of GLIMS guidelines, who's
doing what, what the documents' themes are, how many there are, etc., I
would like your feedback and help in completion of the following.
There are four "guidelines" documents (which could be combined later):
Analysis Guidelines
Status: ?
Maintainer: Flagstaff people?
Location: ?
Purpose:
To guide users through the general process of GLIMS analysis,
addressing points such as:
- where to locate the GLIMS glacier ID
- what the minimum requirements for submission are
- how to deal with the branching structure of a glacier system
- how to resolve the glacier boundary versus basin boundary issue
- ...
Data Transfer Guidelines
Status: in terse form, on the GLIMS web site under "Database
Description"
Maintainer: Bruce Raup
Location:
http://www.GLIMS.org/datatransfer/data_transfer_specification.html
Purpose:
To document the data transfer format, what is required or optional, and
what to do in strange cases.
Glacier Parameters Guidelines
Status: in early stages(?), in the form of Fabian Mauz's pictoral
dictionary of WGMS/GLIMS parameters
Maintainer: ?
Location: ?
Purpose:
To clearly define all the glacier descriptors and characteristics
storable in the GLIMS database, including the WGMS glacier
characteristics (frontal characteristics, etc.), valids for
features/materials on the left/right of segments, snowline, average
slopes (e.g. derived from DEM, or from two point elevations), etc.
Algorithms Guidelines
Status: Good start; summarizes various algorithms
Maintainer: Andreas Kaeaeb
Location: http://www.geo.unizh.ch/~kaeaeb/glims/algor.html
Purpose:
To document (summarize?) algorithms that are or may be used in GLIMS.
We need to fill in the question marks and get these things growing.
Thanks,
Bruce
