Dear GLIMS Colleague,

This update contains one item-- a forwarded message pertaining to public
availability of ASTER data. This is separate from the issue of select
processed glacier images being available from a password protected ftp
site.

All,

After much work and preparation from everyone
involved, ASTER data is now available from the EDC DAAC. This notice is to
explain what is available, and how it can be acquired.

HOW TO ORDER ASTER ARCHIVED DATA, TODAY

Right now, the ASTER archive available to the public contains L1A and L1B
data acquired from March 2000 until today. To search and order this data,
please go to the EOS Data Gateway (EDG). The EDG is available through all
the DAACs; through our DAAC it can be reached at:

http:/edcimswww.cr.usgs.gov/pub/imswelcome/

If you have never used the EDG, or need some help in getting started, there
is an ordering tutorial available from the EDC DAAC at:

http://edcdaac.usgs.gov/tutorial

If that isn't enough help, please call our user services, at 605-594-6116.

HOW TO ORDER ON-DEMAND HIGHER LEVEL ASTER DATA PRODUCTS, SOON

The On Demand Data Processing (ODPR) tool is used to order higher level
ASTER on-demand data products. The tool will be available in December,
2000, when the Decorrelation Stretch and Brightness Temperature products
are released.

HOW TO MAKE SURE SPECIFIC LOWER LEVEL DATA IS ACQUIRED AND GETS INTO THE
ARCHIVE

For information on the procedure to make sure the
instrument acquires data that you wish to get products from, go to ASTERWEB
page:

http://asterweb.jpl.nasa.gov/gettingdata/

TO FIND OUT GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT ASTER

Tor information about ASTER, go to ASTERWEB:
http://asterweb.jpl.nasa.gov

We are looking forward to getting this data out and used in the community.
If you have any problems with ordering or receiving the data from the EDC
DAAC, please do not hesitate to contact EDC DAAC user services and let us
know.

Thanks,

Michael Abrams
