NetCDF Files: An Overview

Overview | Tools | Data

Network Common Data Form (NetCDF) files are a standard for the exchange of scientific data in binary format that are platform independent and self-describing (files contain a header and file metadata in the form of name/value attributes). This file format was developed by the Unidata project at the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR). For a list of tools available for reading and browsing netCDF files, follow the Tools links above; for data available from NSIDC in netCDF format, follow the Data link above. For more information about the netCDF file format, please visit the UCAR Unidata Web site.
