Data set update: AMSR-E/Aqua L2B Global Swath Surface Precipitation GSFC Profiling Algorithm, Version 4

The AMSR-E/Aqua L2B Global Swath Surface Precipitation GSFC Profiling Algorithm, Version 4 data set accessible from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) is now available. The data have been reprocessed using version 4 of the AMSR-E Level-2A Brightness temperatures as input data and the GPROF 2017 algorithm. Eight variables were removed and three have been added, and the names for some of the remaining variables have changed slightly. The file format is now HDF-EOS5 and there has been a slight change to the file naming convention.

Data from 01 June 2002 to 24 December 2002 and 01 January 2007 to 06 June 2007 are now available. Temporal gaps in the data set will be filled in as the files are processed and delivered to us. We expect all version 4 files to be available by June 2022. If you require a file for a date not available in version 4 we recommend looking at version 3: https://nsidc.org/data/ae_rain/versions/3.

This data set includes instantaneous surface precipitation rate and type over ice-free/snow-free land and ocean between 89.24 degrees north and south latitudes at a 10 km spatial resolution along the track and 5 km along the scan.
